Venture funding
The total amount accumulated in 2021 topped $35 billion and Boston area companies raised over $1 billion in the first month of 2022. Total numbers through the first half of the year topped out at about $12.6 billion with around $7 billion of that number coming in during the second quarter. The third series of the year tracked over $3 billion while quarter four reached the $4.1 billion mark. These amounts are tracking fairly well compared to the prior year and bode well given the slowdown seen across many sectors. Needless to say, recent infusion of capital has been notable, and an array of firms exist in the region that cover all facets of the fund-raising process from very early-stage enterprises to mature corporations.

– Companies headquartered in the Boston region pulled in about $8 billion in funding during the 1st half of 2023. This figure is down from the $12.5 billion generated during the same period of the prior year and represents a more tempered approach by many VC’s as contrasted with the previous couple of years.

The Biotechnology realm in particular has shown exceptional expansion during this period – a development that is not all that surprising given the focus this area has placed on growth in this particular sector for a number of years.
